The highpoint of Illinois, Charles Mound, has a particular challenge in that it's open to the public only on certain days. We've been aiming to arrive here the first weekend in August, which dictated the basic outline of July. Happily everything worked out great, and we made it to the base of the driveway on Saturday morning.

Starting up the 1+ mile hike, we met a man named Jim and had a pleasant walk up to the top the hill and back while enjoying a nice conversation. Thanks Jim!

The highpoint has a lovely view of the countryside, and we appreciate the landowner's allowance for people to trek up their driveway every few weeks on our fun little quest around the country.
